The Philadelphia Eagles announced they’re signing a former Track and Field Olympian to their practice squad.
The Eagles ae signing Olympic sprinter Devon Allen to their practice squad to play at Wide Receiver. They also announced Allen will be joined by Wide Receiver Greg Ward. Both signings were announced by NFL Network’s Mark Garafolo.
Allen, 28 was a former track and field athlete who competed in hurdles during his time as a track and field athlete. He made the Olympics twice, competing in both the 2016 and 2021 events held in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo respectively, along with 3 World Championships. His best finish was a 4th place finish in both the Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Orgeon, both of which came in the Hurdles event.
Though his focus was track and field, he was a 4 star recruit as a wide receiver and played 3 years for the University of Oregon before focusing on football. Upon entering a recent pro day at Oregon, he impressed NFL scouts in the 40 yard dash, where he ran an unofficial 4.35 seconds.
Signing Allen will help the Eagles prepare for quick down field threats, as his speed and skill in Oregon will help secondaries with their routes. The Eagles are preparing for another deep post season run, and Allen’s speed and leaping will be necessary to train against.
