The Philadelphia Eagles will be without star cornerback Darius Slay when they play the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night as head coach Nick Sirianni has revealed the player underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this week.
While Sirianni did not reveal when he thinks the CB might be back, Adam Schefter reports that Slay is expected to return before the end of the regular season.
Sirianni was also mum on Slay’s replacement in the lineup, though rookie Kelee Ringo and Josh Jobe, a second-year defensive player, are thought to be the likely candidates.
“We’ve got the right guys in place,” was all Sirianni would say on the matter.
This will come as a bitter blow for the Eagles as Slay has been the only consistent performer in their secondary this season. The 32-year-old has registered 14 pass breakups and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
The team ranks 28th in pass defense for the term and has allowed 29 touchdowns through the air, which is the second-most in the NFL in 2023.
