It appears the Philadelphia Eagles could be employing the dark arts amid their negotiations with star cornerback Darius Slay.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini is reporting that the Eagles have granted the CB’s agent permission to seek a trade, though they’re also hopeful he will continue to be part of the roster.
Meanwhile, Jeff McLane, a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, is citing an NFL source who claims the player never asked for permission to shop around.
McClane notes that it’s unknown as to whether the Eagles put the info out but it’s clearly part of “negotiating tactics,” which suggests the possibility of a contract restructure remains.
The 32-year-old was acquired by Philly in 2020 as part of a trade from the Detroit Lions and signed a three-year deal worth $50 million, with $30 million guaranteed.

In recent times, he’s insisted he wants to remain with the team and is grateful for the chance they took on him.
“I love the Eagles,” he said. “They took another chance on me trading for me, and I panned out of course. I’d love to stay in Philly for sure.”
Slay played a huge part in the Eagles reaching the Super Bowl last season and was a Pro Bowl selection after registering 14 passes defensed and three interceptions.
Having already lost a number of key players to free agency, the Eagles could have a very different look come next season, especially if Slay gets traded.
