The Philadelphia Eagles have added a former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion to their rebuilt defensive unit.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star linebacker Devin White to a one-year deal worth a max value of $7.5 million. White just completed his five-year rookie deal with the NFC South club.
The LSU product was drafted fifth overall by the Buccaneers back in 2019. White broke out in his 2020 sophomore season, having racked up nine sacks, four pass defenses and 140 tackles en route to All-Pro honors.
White played an instrumental role in the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl 55 championship run that same year. In four postseason games, he had two interceptions, a pair of pass defenses and two fumble recoveries.

But White’s career has inexplicably declined ever since. He has just 11.5 total sacks since his career year, and the advanced statistics at Pro Football Reference show that White has struggled mightily in coverage.
White joins a new-look Eagles defense that has bid farewell to franchise icon Fletcher Cox (retirement), Kevin Byard (released) and Nicholas Morrow (signed with the Buffalo Bills). It has also been widely reported that star pass-rushers Josh Sweat and Haason Reddick are both available via trade.
After three inconsistent seasons, White will get the chance to rebuild his market on a star-studded Eagles club — the very team that White’s Bucs eliminated in the Wild Card Round.
