The Philadelphia Eagles have many of their fans a bit concerned given the number of top players they’ve lost since going to the Super Bowl.
But it appears they’re hesitant to let go of their best cornerbacks, having made a decision to keep James Bradberry in free agency. Now, they’re poised to retain Darius Slay too following claims the five-time Pro Bowler would be released.
The team had announced giving the player permission to speak to other teams amid negotiations over an extension, though it’s since been pointed out that he never asked for such dispensation.
Slay took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to suggest that he was leaving the Eagles, expressing love and appreciation.
But he was back on the platform just over 12 hours later to tell everyone he’s staying.

According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, the Eagles simply could not come to terms over releasing someone of Slay’s caliber and were leaning towards keeping him after initially deciding to cut him.
“It’s not final, but that’s the way it is looking right now,” another source told ESPN.
With Bradberry now signed to a three-year deal, the team has also found a way to keep Slay.
The Georgia native remains one of the best CBs in the NFL at 32. He has made seven interceptions and 31 pass deflections since joining Philadelphia via trade in 2020. It remains to be seen what transpires in terms of a new deal as he’s due over $26 million in 2023, which is why he nearly became a cap casualty.
