The Philadelphia Eagles have proposed another change.
The Philadelphia Eagles would like to see tenths of seconds added to game clocks at the end of each half.
The proposal, per Pro Football Talk: “The game clocks will display game time in accordance with all NFL Playing Rules and will count down in one second increments except in the last 30 seconds of the 2nd and 4th quarter, when the clocks will transition to a countdown in tenths of seconds.”
This proposal would need to be approved by at least 24 of the 32 owners to pass and be implemented.
This isn’t the only change the Eagles are trying to pass as the franchise also proposed a rule change that would give teams an alternative to an onside kick. That rule would come straight from the XFL where a team would have the option of a 4th-and-15 play from their own 20-yard line to retain possession. If the offense were to get a first down, they would keep possession, and if the defense had a stop then they assume possession.
That rule change would eliminate the option of an onside kick which has become increasingly harder to do in recent years.
