The last time the Denver Broncos qualified for the playoffs, Peyton Manning was the quarterback. This time around, he won’t be saving them as they are in the midst of a coaching change.
Manning was asked about the possibility he would move into the coaching ranks with the Broncos after Nathaniel Hackett was fired.
“I don’t think so,” the five-time NFL MVP said.
Manning has joked in the past that he won’t move into coaching because of his issues as offensive coordinator for his son’s sixth-grade football team. He explained as much when he was interviewed on “The Colin Cowherd Podcast” in September.
“I don’t see a GM in my future. Coach? I’m the offensive coordinator on my son Marshall’s sixth-grade football team,” Manning told Cowherd. “We got beat in overtime on Saturday. A couple of my players asked me why I ran the ball so much in the red zone.

“I think coaching in my future is also out. Hearing that from a couple of sixth graders was tough. Hearing that from a 32-year-old wide receiver or quarterback saying, ‘Hey I haven’t gotten the ball. What are you doing?’ I think that’s out.”
The Broncos decided to part ways with head coach Nathaniel Hackett. After a 4-11 record this season, It came on the heels of the team being beat 51-14 by the Rams on Christmas.
Manning has a great mind for football. He still comments on the game through ESPN with the Manningcast, but it does not appear he ever wants to be a head coach. Perhaps one day Manning will go into coaching, although for now, it is not in the cards.
Since Manning retired after the 2015 season, the Broncos have just one winning season and have only finished higher than third in the AFC West once.
