When Tom Brady announced his retirement back in February, it just didn’t feel right. Something always made it seem like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback would come back for one more season. But that didn’t stop friend and longtime rival Peyton Manning from getting him a retirement gift anyway.
According to Manning himself, when he heard Tom had retired, he sent him a long, hand-written letter and a bottle of wine to wish him the best as he rides off into the sunset…
But then, out of nowhere, the GOAT decided that he wasn’t done after all. And, while Manning was surely happy to hear that Brady was going to keep going at 45-years-old, he couldn’t help but wonder about that retirement gift.
During a Q&A at The Mint Collective (a “next-generation hobby event” in Las Vegas), Manning decided to call out Brady and demand his letter and wine be returned immediately.
Manning’s got a point. When you decide to un-retire, especially when it’s less than two month later, it’s your duty to return all retirement gifts you’ve received. That’s why you should never even open any of those gifts until at least six months into the retirement.
Let’s just hope Brady didn’t open that wine yet. That would be an irresponsible thing to do when you know you’re still unsure about your decision.
