It’s been a tough week in the football world, and tonight we were hit with more terrible news when it was reported that former NFL running back and Madden cover athlete Peyton Hillis was in critical condition after saving his kids from drowning in the ocean.
Other than the fact that Hillis’ children were safe and healthy, we didn’t have much information. That has somewhat changed, however, as Hillis’ father has provided an update on the condition of his son.
According to Greg Hillis, Peyton is improving, but still in intensive care while dealing with some problems with his kidneys and lungs. Greg ended his update by saying, “I’m sure he would want everyone to know that he appreciates all of the prayers being thrown up on his behalf.”
Hillis was in Pensacola, Florida, at the time and he was reportedly taken to the hospital in a helicopter. Other than that, there are not many details regarding the incident.
Hillis was a seventh-round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 2008, but it was in Cleveland where he really made a name for himself. As a member of the Browns in 2010, Hillis had 1,177 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, along with 61 receptions for 477 yards and two touchdowns. His big season earned him the honor of being placed on the cover of EA Sports’ Madden NFL 12 video game.
Let’s keep this man in our thoughts and prayers. We’re all pulling for you, Peyton.
