NBC’s Peter King has hit out at the NFL for allowing the Eagles to continue using their “Tush Push” quarterback sneak this season.
The play has been the subject of debate for some time as it allows the NFC champions a significant advantage in short-yardage situations. It involves the team lining a few more players behind quarterback Jalen Hurts who all help push him past the line of scrimmage.
Hurts was able to convert 36 out of 40 such attempts last season. And it was employed during Philly’s win over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night.
The play has prompted lots of criticism, but the NFL has no problem with it, so the Eagles continue to use it to their advantage.
King, who has been outspoken about it in the past, blasted it again on ProFootballTalk this week, branding it an “abomination.”
“I am on record last year many times loudly saying it’s an abomination. It’s an idiotic rule. And the NFL has made, in my opinion, a terrible mistake in not legislating a rugby play out of the NFL,” he declared.
“There’s only one logical reason why and that is, in the NFL rules, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I can tell you there are significant, important people in the NFL that blanch every time they see this and they just shake their heads.
“They think that it is somebody pushing the rules too far, but the NFL didn’t push back. So they’re gonna keep doing it. Good for the Eagles, I’d keep doing it too.”

The NFL did consider banning the play during the offseason but eventually decided not to.
To be fair, there’s nothing preventing other teams from using it. But the Eagles have an offensive line that allows them the best execution in the league.
