Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider have stressed the need to keep adding to their defensive line and it looks like it might take them to selecting a controversial player in the draft.
According to Albert Breer of SI.com , word continues to circulate that Seahawks HC Pete Carroll is “intrigued” with the idea of selecting DL Jalen Carter at No. 5 overall.
“I’ve heard that Pete Carroll loves the Georgia game-wrecker, and that the Seahawks had a good 30 visit with him,” Breer wrote.
Breer explains that the Seahawks have taken chances on players before. It should be noted hat it did not work out with DT Malik McDowell back in 2017.
Carter is considered to be the most talented prospect in this year’s draft, but his off-the-field concerns make him a polarizing one at that. He just recently pled no contest and was sentenced to 12 months probation, a $1,000 fine and 80 hours of community service for his role in a fatal automobile accident that claimed the lives of a Georgia football player and staffer. A police investigation into a fatal car crash involving Georgia recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy and offensive lineman Devin Willock concluded that Carter had been racing the car leading up to the accident.
The father of that player just filed a a lawsuit against the university over that accident.
The 21-year-old was named a consensus All-American after his junior season at Georgia.

Owning the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks have numerous routes they could take as they could draft a quarterback like CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson or Will Levis. However, it appears they have their eyes on defense.
During his three-year college career, Carter recorded 83 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and four pass deflections in 35 career games.
