Bill Belichick is simply not getting the same respect he once used to command from players, at least that is what one former Patriots player is saying.
Ty Law, who used to play cornerback for the team, said on “The Greg Hill Show” that Belichick may not command the respect of younger players as he used to. He laid out the reasons things have changed so much.
“I will say today’s player has a little more swag to them I guess,” Law said, via NESN. “They go out there and say their own peace through social media. They can get their version out. A lot of guys are getting paid so much money to where they don’t care.”
“So, I think the level of respect may not be there as much. And, I think a lot of that is due to when a player is out there making 20 million bucks. I mean, great for the players, but then you got a coach that might be making two or three million bucks for an assistant coach. There is a different type of hierarchy there.”
You don’t have to be in the locker room to see that Bill Belichick is not a person who relates to his players, especially with incoming college players who have already been getting paid from NIL deals like never before.
This past season, the Patriots missed the playoffs as they head into the offseason trying to figure out what they want to do with their offense that was a complete mess in 2022.
Quarterback Mac Jones took a major step back in 2022 as completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 2,997 yards with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He finished statistically worse off than in his rookie year.
He is expected to be the starter in 2023, but things can quickly change as you know.
