The New England Patriots might not be all that committed to Mac Jones given the prospect they’re reported to have entertained this week.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Will Levis visited the team on Wednesday, with the 2023 NFL Draft now only a week away. Levis is one of the top quarterback prospects heading into the selection process, but he could go first overall or 20th, depending on who you ask…
As for Jones, the Pats QB isn’t on great terms with head coach Bill Belichick due to his seeking outside help last season, and there were rumors claiming he could be traded at the end of the term.
It was understood that owner Robert Kraft was keen on keeping the former Alabama star around, having realized that he wasn’t put in a position to succeed last season. But having Levis over for a visit does suggest that they might not be fully decided on Jones.
The Patriots would likely have to make a trade if they want Levis as he might not be available when they get on the board at No. 14.
Who knows, though? Maybe having Levis visit was a way of telling Jones his status as the team’s starting QB is dependent on his performances and not the fact that he was drafted 15th overall two years ago.
