It appears that the New England Patriots tried to rid themselves of Mac Jones this offseason, and they still might be trying to.
The Patriots picked Mac Jones in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but after a stellar rookie campaign that saw the Patriots head to the playoffs, Jones would falter in his second season last year.
Jones trade rumors started to flare up once the 2022 NFL season wrapped up and now they are back up again.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, head coach Bill Belichick had been trying to trade Mac Jones to several different teams.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Belichick has shopped Jones to multiple teams during the 2023 offseason.
The full list of potential destinations isn’t known. The teams mentioned as potential destinations were the Raiders, Texans, Buccaneers, and Commanders.
Obviously, a trade hasn’t occurred yet. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen. A team hoping to draft a quarterback could pivot to Jones, if that team doesn’t get the guy it wants.”

Following the 2022 season, in which the Patriots finished 26th in total offense and dead last in red zone efficiency, New England decided to scrap the Patricia-Judge experiment and go out and sign a familiar face in Bill O’Brien to be their offensive coordinator.
It should be noted that it was previously reported that an offseason Jones trade would happen “over Robert Kraft’s dead body.”
Even though the Patriots have turned the page on last season with their coaching changes, it will be interesting to see if the damage from last season will bleed into 2023. Once Jones finds out he was being shopped, things might get a little awkward in the Patriots locker room.
