According to Jason La Canfora, the Patriots are going to buyers at the trade deadline as they look for a wide receiver to help out on offense going forward.
New England dealt a second-round pick to the Falcons for WR Mohamed Sanu last year, but ultimately cut him from the roster coming out of camp after an injury-riddled few months.
La Canfora notes they need speed and downfield playmaking ability.
“It’s the same thing as it was before,” a scout told La Canfora. “Edelman is slowing down and isn’t going to give you the YAC like he could before. They don’t get anything out of their tight ends at all in the passing game, and they don’t do anything deep, because they can’t. The line is all over the place from a personnel standpoint. There’s only so much you can do with that cast of characters.”
The report also states New England could pursue include Vikings WR Adam Thielen, Texans WR Will Fuller, Jets WR Breshad Perriman or Jets TE Chris Herndon.
