In years past, when the Patriots would go out and sign a random guy to their team, it would be celebrated as Bill Belichick possibly finding the next great player for his team. Well, Tom Brady is no longer on this team and the franchise is nothing like it used to be.
A North Dakota pizza restaurant worker is going insanely viral this week as he is now going from behind the counter to the front lines of the NFL. The New England Patriots signed Sebastian Gutierrez to their practice squad, the team announced.
The 24-year-old played at Minot State University in Minot, N.D. He signed in May as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Denver Broncos but was released in August.
The 6-foot-6, 295-pound offensive lineman worked for Uncle Maddio’s pizza restaurant in Minot while waiting for another opportunity to play football.
He is now getting a second chance.
“Well, never thought in a million years I would have a NFL player working for me,” Losson Leonard, the owner of the restaurant wrote Wednesday on Facebook.

Leonard said Gutierrez interviewed with other teams while working at the restaurant.
“I think he’s a great young man and I wish him the best,” said Losson. “I think he’ll do well. I think once they let him in the door, he’ll never come out, I think he’ll have a great career in the NFL.”
The Patriots will host the Detroit Lions Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
