Back in 2018, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick ripped into Rob Gronkowski in front of the team for working with Tom Brady’s trainer, Alex Guerrero.
As the team gets set to face the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 53, a report came out stating the team was blaming Brady’s trainer for the amount of injuries the Patriots tight end has had to deal with, which has caused him to contemplate retirement several times within the past few years.
Giardi reports that the team solely blames Guerrero’s method for Gronkowski’s injuries to his ankle, Achilles and back.
“Internally the Patriots feel like Gronkowski brought some of this on himself, during the offseason when he reported, he came in not as strong, not as fast and not as explosive …The Patriots feel as though if maybe he had done it their way, as opposed to the TB12 way, of which Gronk is devoted to, maybe things would have been different.”
Brady’s close relationship with Guerrero caused Belichick to take drastic moves by banning Guerrero from the team’s sidelines and planes in 2017. Yet, there is still no evidence to show that he has actually stopped working with Pats players on the squad.
Gronkowski caught 47 receptions, 682 yards and three touchdowns during the 2018 season, some of his lowest numbers since coming into the league.
