The New England Patriots have released a player from their secondary in a surprising roster move.
The team is back on American soil following a loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday. The loss leaves them with a 2-8 record, though head coach Bill Belichick’s job is thought to be safe for now.
While Bill is unlikely to go anywhere at this juncture, the same can’t be said for everyone on the roster because significant moves are expected as the team heads into its bye week.
The first of those moves came on Monday, with the team releasing cornerback Jack Jones. The player’s agent, J. Tooson, revealed as much.
“Certainly want to thank the Patriot Organization for drafting Jack,” Tooson said. “Jack is an immense talent and looks forward to making an immediate contribution on his next team as soon as Sunday.”
The Patriots drafted Jones out of Arizona State from the fourth round in 2022 and, while he showed lots of potential, various off-field issues caused his relationship with the team to deteriorate.

Jones was suspended as a rookie after arriving late to a rehab session while on the injured reserve. He was arrested on gun charges at the Logan International Airport earlier this year before agreeing to a settlement including one year of pretrial probation.
