James Robinson is in need of yet another team this offseason.
The 24-year-old joined New England in March, signing a two-year deal. No guaranteed money was included in the contract as a result of injury concerns. Now, on the day physicals are taking place ahead of mandatory minicamp, he has been let go.
The move clears around $1.6 million in cap space for the Patriots.
Robinson tore an Achilles late in 2021 while playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars. His contract with the Patriots also included injury waivers and split salaries if Robinson landed on injured reserve.
He was set to help replace Damien Harris — who signed with the Buffalo Bills in free agency — as the top running back behind Stevenson.
The undrafted free agent found his best success in 2020, rushing for 1,070 yards and scoring 10 total touchdowns in his debut season with the Jaguars.

His career would end with the team after they traded him to the Jets midway through last season. He played in only four games, rushing for 85 yards and recording one touchdown reception.
In three NFL seasons, he has rushed for 2,262 yards and scored 23 total touchdowns.
This is yet another example of how the career of a running back can look so high and fall so fast in the NFL.
