There is absolutely no denying that what we saw Jakobi Meyers do at the end of the Patriots-Raiders game will go down as one of the dumbest plays in NFL history.
In fact, Patriots color commentator Scott Zolak is taking things one step further by anointing this Patriots team as “one of the dumbest teams” he’s ever seen.
Zolak and Bob Socci were calling the game on the team’s radio broadcast, and they, like all of us, couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Socci stuck to the script and called it like any veteran, unbiased play-by-play commentator would…
As for Zolak, well, let’s just say he was calling it exactly how you’d expect a disgruntled Pats fan to call just a disastrous play.
One of the dumbest teams we’ve ever seen? It’s not often we see Bill Belichick-coached teams described in such a way, but it seems perfectly justified in this instance.
The Patriots had absolutely no reason to start lateraling the ball there. The game was tied, so they weren’t desperate to score a touchdown. And they were barely beyond midfield, so they still would have needed a miracle, even if they had they been able to string a couple of lateral passes together.

Regardless, all of that didn’t seem to stop Rhamondre Stevenson and Jakobi Meyers from playing a little hot potato and giving the game away in the process.
After the game, Jakobi Meyers tried to explain what was going through his mind on that play:
The loss was a crucial one for the Patriots, as it dropped them to 7-7 on the season, leaving them out of the playoff picture at the moment.
