New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has finally revealed the truth behind the infamous rumor that he had one of his Super Bowl rings stolen by Vladimir Putin, the current President of Russia.
For more than a decade, there was an urban legend that Putin took one of Kraft’s Super Bowl rings during one of their meetings. The story was that Putin looked at the ring and simply chose not to give it back to the legendary Patriots owner.
Speaking on one of the episodes of “The Dynasty” docuseries on Apple TV+ (h/t Andrew Holleran of The Spun), Kraft confirmed that Putin did indeed take one of his Super Bowl rings during a visit back in 2005.
According to Kraft, Putin put the Super Bowl ring on and decided to keep it to himself. Not only that, but the White House actually told Kraft to tell an alternative story on why the ring came into Putin’s possession:
“He took the ring off, and I had my hand out, and he took the ring. He put it in his side pocket. Three KGB guys come around him, and he’s off. A call came in from the White House, and they said, ‘It would be good for US-Soviet relations if you (said you) meant to give them the ring as a gift.'”

On the bright side, Kraft still has enough rings to fit onto one hand. It could be worse!
