New England Patriots’ star linebacker Matthew Judon decided to have some fun on Twitter in the form of trolling.
On Friday evening, Judon teased fans by tweeting out that Arizona Cardinals’ wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was a Patriot.
Hopkins has been the subject of trade rumors since the end of the Cardinals’ highly disappointing 2022 season. The soon-to-be 31-year-old, who was limited to nine games last year because of injuries and suspension, has two years remaining on his contract.
The Patriots certainly make sense as a potential landing spot for Hopkins. This team hasn’t had a true WR1 since Julian Edelman’s last healthy season back in 2019, for starters. Secondly, top wideout Jakobi Meyers (804 receiving yards in 2022) is slated to become a free agent.
Bill Belichick has a history of acquiring big-named veterans who are nearing the end of their prime years. It sure worked out with the likes of Rodney Harrison, Corey Dillon, Randy Moss and Darrelle Revis, so don’t be surprised if he takes a chance on Hopkins as well.
The Patriots only missed the season twice between 2001 and 2019, and they went 20 years between losing seasons. But the club has now finished below .500 in two of the last three years, and it’s evident that Belichick has to make some drastic roster changes if his Patriots are to return to the status of a heavyweight.
