During his 24-year run with the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick was a no-nonsense head coach who ran a super-disciplined tight ship.
While some ex-Patriots have openly complained about Belichick and “The Patriot Way” (see Asante Samuel, Danny Amendola and Brandon Spikes), the results of Belichick’s military-like discipline speak for themselves: 17 AFC East division titles, nine AFC title banners and six Super Bowl trophies.
And yet, some Patriots greats were actually willing to take the risk of breaking Belichick’s stern rules by consuming whiskey during practice. As crazy as it sounds, Patriots legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Ty Law explained that this really did happen on “The Dan Patrick Show”.
“We did it in practice. Mike Vrabel used to have a flask, so we’d all go to Vrabel’s and hit the flask…get some whiskey or something.”
Belichick took over as the new head coach of the Patriots in 2000 after going back on his agreement with the New York Jets. Law played with the Patriots from 1995 to 2004, winning three Super Bowl championships with the team alongside Vrabel.
Law hilariously emphasized in the interview that he didn’t drink before games, noting that it wouldn’t have been a smart idea since he had to cover the speedy wideouts like Indianapolis Colts star Marvin Harrison Jr.
