The New England Patriots are leaving one of their best players behind for Sunday’s Week 10 showdown against the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt, Germany.
Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, All-Pro cornerback J.C. Jackson is “not expected to travel with the team” for Sunday’s clash. Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that the Patriots have “questions about his reliability”, leading to the decision to keep Jackson in New England for “a mental reset.”
Last month, the Patriots reacquired Jackson plus a 2025 seventh-round pick in a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers for a 2025 sixth-round pick.
Jackson signed a lucrative five-year deal with the Bolts worth $82.5 million back in the 2022 offseason, but his play regressed considerably in La La Land. Jackson was benched in a Monday night game against the Denver Broncos and played five contests before suffering a ruptured patellar tendon that ended his season.
The 27-year-old Jackson was among football’s top corners during his first run with the Patriots. He helped the team to a Super Bowl 53 championship win and garnered Pro Bowl and First-team All-Pro selections in 2021.
In five games for the Patriots (2-7) this season, Jackson has three pass defenses and 14 combined tackles. He racked up 17 interceptions over the 2020 and 2021 seasons, asserting himself as one of football’s best ball-hawkers.
