New England Patriots’ second-year cornerback Jack Jones could be facing an ultra-lengthy prison sentence if he’s convicted on gun charges.
According to state police (via NFL.com), Jones was arrested on Friday at the Boston Logan International Airport after two guns were discovered in his carry-on luggage.Jones is facing the following charges, per NFL.com:
“Two counts each of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification car, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.”
Per a report from Nicole Yang and Travis Andersen of The Boston Globe, Jones is “likely” to be arraigned on Tuesday. The report also noted that Jones faces up to a prison sentence of more than 30 years if convicted:
“Jones could face decades in prison if convicted and sentenced consecutively on all counts, authorities said.
“If he were convicted and sentenced consecutively on each charge, he’d face more than 30 years in prison,” said James Borghesani, a spokesperson for Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden’s office.
It is rare for judges to issue consecutive sentences, as opposed to concurrent penalties.”

The former Arizona State standout was drafted in the fourth round (121st overall) by the Patriots last year. Jones emerged as a key playmaker in New England’s secondary, recording two interceptions, six pass defenses and one forced fumble in 13 games.
Jones’ first career interception was, memorably, a pick-six off Green Bay Packers’ star quarterback Aaron Rodgers at Lambeau Field back in Week 4. Though the Patriots missed the postseason for the second time in three years, Jones proved to be a valuable addition to an already stout New England defense.
The Patriots will open up their 2023 season with a home tilt against the defending NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles at Gillette Stadium.
We’ll be sure to provide more details on the Jones situation as they become available.
