A New England Patriots fan has the NFL world buzzing after sharing an interesting rumor ahead of Thursday’s draft in Kansas City.
Reddit user Automatic_Reality546 claims that their coworker is friends who used to work in player personnel for the Alabama Crimson Tide. That person, according to Automatic_Reality546, was tipped off by a friend about framework on a potential Mac Jones trade.
Apparently, the trade’s “parameters” would see New England deal the third-year quarterback, the No. 14 selection, a 2023 fourth-rounder and a 2024 first-round pick to Houston for the No. 2 overall selection.
Keep in mind that this is merely a rumor, and nothing has been reported by any notable NFL insiders. But it’s certainly an interesting rumor worth paying attention to, given the recent talks that Jones may be on the trade block in Foxborough.
If the Patriots opted to move on from Jones, head coach Bill Belichick would presumably want a promising capable replacement lined up. There aren’t any suitable long-term starting options in free agency or the trade market, unless they make a move for Lamar Jackson (that seems extremely unlikely now).

Trading Jones for an early first-round pick would put Belichick in position to get a top 2023 QB prospect, specifically Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Florida’s Anthony Richardson or Kentucky’s Will Levis.
Another option, if Belichick were to trade Jones, would be to move forward with second-year QB Bailey Zappe. The 24-year-old took Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers to overtime in his first NFL action in Week 4, as Zappe had to replace an injured Brian Boyer in that contest.
Zappe also won both of his starts for the Patriots last season, against the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns.
