New England Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf appeared to take a shot at now-former head coach Bill Belichick while speaking to reporters on Tuesday morning.
Last month, Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft held a meeting to announce that the legendary head coach was leaving Foxborough after 24 years. It was announced as a mutual “parting of ways” between the parties.
Per Mark Daniels of MassLive.com, Wolf told reporters on Tuesday that the Patriots’ new culture will have “less of a hard a** vibe.”
That appeared to be a swipe at Belichick, who was renowned for being fully no-nonsense and awfully strict as New England’s head coach. Though Belichick’s culture produced six Super Bowl championships and nine AFC title banners in New England, many former Patriots have been vocal about their unhappiness with the way Belichick ran things.
Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, LeGarrette Blount, Asante Samuel, Danny Amendola and Brandon Spikes are among the former Patriots who openly detailed their frustrations with Belichick’s style.

Surprisingly, Belichick was passed over in the latest NFL head coaching hiring cycle. In fact, the Atlanta Falcons were the only team that interviewed Belichick, who met with the NFC South club twice.
The Falcons wound up hiring ex-Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris for their head coaching vacancy. One of Belichick’s sons, Stephen, left the Patriots for the Washington Huskies’ defensive coordinator position. His other son, Brian, is staying on as the safeties coach under new HC Jerod Mayo.
