New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is known for offering very few details in his answers to the media, and Wednesday’s press conference was no different.
Belichick was asked about the status of Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, who’s dealing with a high ankle sprain that’s expected to sideline him for Sunday’s Week 4 game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
Several reporters tried getting more details out of Belichick. But in typical Bill Belichick fashion, the legendary head coach refused to give any information.
“Day by day,” Belichick stated when asked if Jones had a high ankle sprain. “What do I look like, a doctor? An orthopedic surgeon? I don’t know, talk to the medical experts.”
When another reporter asked Belichick what the medical staff had to say, the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach once offered a vague answer.
“Day by day. We’ll evaluate…I mean what difference does it make…you think I’m gonna read the MRI? That’s not my job, so.”

Jones suffered his ankle injury on a hit from Calais Campbell during Sunday’s Week 3 home game against the Baltimore Ravens, a 37-26 New England loss. Jones finished the day with 22 completions on 31 attempts for 321 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Patriots haven’t officially ruled out Jones for the showdown with the Packers. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Belichick also told reporters that longtime Patriots backup Brian Hoyer would get the start Sunday if Jones is sidelined.
Through the team’s first three games, Jones compiled a 66.0 completion percentage for 786 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions.
After visiting the Packers in Week 4, the Patriots will return home for a Week 5 early afternoon contest against the Detroit Lions. They’ll hit the road again for a Week 6 meeting with the Cleveland Browns before returning home to face the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 7.
The Packers are coming off a tight 14-12 victory over Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Aaron Rodgers and company will look to improve to 3-1 on the year when they host New England for the first time since 2014.
