The New England Patriots have made a significant adjustment to their coaching staff under new head coach Jerod Mayo.
Per multiple reports, the Patriots are set to promote DeMarcus Covington to their defensive coordinator role. The 34-year-old has been on New England’s coaching staff since 2017, working as the defensive line coach since 2020.
Two weeks ago, legendary head coach Bill Belichick announced that he and owner Robert Kraft agreed to part ways following 24 years together. Belichick, who remains a free agent, was replaced by Mayo.
The Patriots have filled one major position under Mayo with Covington’s promotion. Now Mayo needs to select a new offensive coordinator to replace Bill O’Brien, who went back to the college ranks to take on the Ohio State OC job.
