It’s training camp season, which means rival coaches are giving Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes bulletin board material again.
Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, yet one anonymous NFL coach took a shot at his play style.
“We love Mahomes because of his unorthodox throws, not because of his natural pocket presence,” one voter said. “And when that disappears, that is when they lose games. I don’t think that is a 1. I think that is a 2.
“Nothing against the guys. I love the kid. But take his first read away and what does he do? He runs, he scrambles and he plays streetball.”
During a training camp press conference on Friday, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes got a chance to finally respond back to that coach and others just like him.
“It’s kinda weird when guys like me, Kyler and Lamar get [criticism] when other guys don’t,” he said. “But we’re gonna go out there and prove ourselves everyday.”

Mahomes is in his first season without star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who now plays with the Miami Dolphins. Hill was traded in the offseason due to a contract dispute.
Even his former teammate has gone out of the way to compare Mahomes to his current quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
It’s safe to say that Mahomes has plenty to keep him motivated this season.
Last season, Mahomes threw for 4,839 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
