Patrick Mahomes is a happy man.
On Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs and free agent offensive lineman Joe Thuney agreed to a five-year deal worth $80 million, with the first two years fully guaranteed at $32.5M.
Thuney is a much needed face in Kansas City in the wake of the complete offensive line breakdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in February’s Super Bowl.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes posted his immediate approval after news of the deal came out:
Keeping pressure away from Mahomes was a major problem spot in each of the Chiefs’ past two playoff losses. According to Next Gen Stats, Mahomes traveled 497 yards in the Super Bowl before throwing the ball or being sacked, the most scramble yards in a game by any quarterback since 2016.
Mahomes was 26 of 49 passing for 270 yards and two interceptions in the Super Bowl. It was the first time he didn’t throw a touchdown in a game since Week 4 of the 2019 season.
