Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated a second Super Bowl win in four seasons this year. But things could have gone very differently for the franchise had the quarterback’s injuries kept him off the field.
Things looked pretty bleak after Mahomes was forced into the locker room for an x-ray after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional Round, with backup QB Chad Henne entering the game for what turned out to be a remarkable drive.
Mahomes was clearly unhappy to be taken off but we had no idea how explosive his reaction was until a clip from the sidelines showed up on Netflix’s new ‘Quarterback’ series.
“Why can’t I do it at halftime?” the QB was heard saying to Chiefs assistant coach Eric Bieniemy, having initially told head coach Andy Reid there was no way he was going off.
“F!” he screamed before throwing his coat and running into the locker room. “God—- it!”
Fortunately for Mahomes and KC, the results came back negative and he was able to return to the game to help the Chiefs to a 27-20 victory through the pain.
