Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has made yet another investment in a sports franchise, having joined his wife Brittany as part of the ownership group of National Women’s Soccer league outfit, the Kansas City Current.
Mahomes announced as much via Twitter on Tuesday, noting he’s thankful to be able to join his spouse as an owner while praising her, as well as the Long family, for their work so far.
“I am thankful for the chance to join @brittanylynne as part of the @thekccurrent ownership team,” the superstar QB wrote. “She and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”
Mahomes is already a minority owner of the MLB’s Kansas City Royals and the Sporting KC soccer club of the MLS.
As for Brittany, she became one of the Current’s owners when it was founded in December of 2020. The franchise is having a new stadium built right now, with the venue expected to open its doors in 2024.
The stadium will be the first-ever built specifically for women’s soccer.
