Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke as if Sunday’s heartbreaking Super Bowl 59 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles marked the final game of Travis Kelce’s illustrious career.
The Chiefs’ bid for a three-peat ended with an ugly 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl 59, a game that saw Mahomes get sacked six times to go along with two interceptions (including a pick-six). Kelce was also a non-factor with just four receptions for 39 yards.
Speaking to reporters after the Super Bowl 59 blowout, Mahomes raved about Travis Kelce in a way that suggests the superstar tight end is planning to retire, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:
“I’ll let Travis make that decision on his own, man. He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL and been such a joy, not only for me to work with but for people to watch. He knows he still has a lot of football left in him. You can see it…He’s done enough to be a gold jacket guy and a first-ballot Hall of Famer…He’ll get to spend some time with his family and make that decision on his own.”

Rapoport reported on Saturday night that Travis Kelce hasn’t made a decision about his playing future, with sources telling him that the Super Bowl 59 outcome could impact his decision.
Travis Kelce Had A Down 2024 Season
The 35-year-old Kelce certainly didn’t look like his usual self in 2024, as he caught just 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns in the regular season. In the playoffs, Kelce caught 13 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown.
