Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes poked fun at himself for totally botching the spike touchdown celebration in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills.
The Chiefs were trailing by one point with just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the AFC title game when Mahomes found the end zone on a 10-yard run to put Kansas City up. The home team would never trail again, squeaking out a close 32-29 victory to clinch their third straight to trip the Super Bowl.
After putting his team ahead, Patrick Mahomes attempted to perform the good ol’ football spike touchdown celebration. Let’s just say that he’ll either need to work on his spiking skills or retire the celebration altogether:

Mahomes later took to X/Twitter and apologized to fans for messing up the spike celebration, adding that the botch is why he doesn’t normally try to do it
I also apologize. That is why i dont try to spike the ball. 😂

With the victory, Mahomes moved to 4-0 against Allen’s Bills in the playoffs, 5-2 in conference championship games and 17-3 in the postseason. Up next, he’ll look to help Kansas City complete the first Super Bowl three-peat in history when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 9.
Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs Are Now One Win Away From NFL History
With three championships in five years, the Chiefs already cemented themselves as a dynasty last season. But completing the first-ever three-peat would cement the Mahomes and Andy Reid-led Chiefs as the greatest dynasty in NFL history, pure and simple.
As a starter, Mahomes has reached the Super Bowl five times in seven years. The only two losses were in the AFC title game at home. And to think he’s already just one win away from winning a fourth championship before his 30th birthday.
