Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that an extension for Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is on the horizon and is expected to be discussed and likely completed this off-season.
Rapoport went on to explain that a Mahomes extension would likely come after the NFL and the NFLPA reach an agreement on a new CBA. Many experts believe Mahomes could wind up being the 1st player to make $40 million per year as part of a long-term deal.
The 24-year-old is currently in the third year of his four-year, $16.4 million.
The highest paid player in the league is currently Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who is making $35 million in average annual salary per year.
During the 2019 season, Mahomes appeared in 14 games and completed 65.9 percent of his passes for 4,031 to go along with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also added 218 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
