The Detroit Lions fell from the ranks of the NFL’s undefeated teams over the weekend, but they had a spectacular showing against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to the limit over four quarters at Ford Field.
Down 30-27 with 2:26 left to play, all the Lions had to do was hold on for 2 minutes and they would get their biggest win of the young season.
Before the offense took the field, Mahomes rallied his teammates on the sideline and calmly delivered an epic speech.
“We do not have to do anything else other than being ourselves. I truly believe that. If we just be ourselves and trust in each other, we will go down there, we can put points up, we can do what we do.
Don’t try to go out there and do everything for yourself. Believe in your teammate. Believe in each other. And when we get these opportunities, we’ll go down and find a way to win the game. Let’s do it right here. Let’s go.”
Mahomes would go on to execute a 79-yard, 13-play touchdown drive to take the lead and win on the road.
