Patrick Mahomes has sounded a warning to the rest of the NFL, putting the league on notice with the suggestion that the Kansas City Chiefs could become even scarier next season.
The Chiefs are the current Super Bowl holders following a remarkable campaign that culminated in them beating the Philadelphia Eagles to lift the Lombardi Trophy in February. But Mahomes reckons the team could be even better when wide receiver Justyn Ross returns to playing.
Ross hasn’t played a single professional minute as he was injured for the entirety of his rookie career. But Mahomes waxed lyrical over the 23-year-old in a recent interview in which he claimed the former Clemson star is the real deal.
“The talent’s through the roof. I think anybody can see that,” the quarterback said during a Zoom call with Arrowhead Pride this week. “And I think he’s gotten better and better.
“The talent’s there and he works his tail off. I’m like, ‘Man, you got to ease up a little bit.’ He wants to run the route 100 times. But you rather have to ease up a guy, make him kind of ease up on himself. You know he wants to work and be the best player he can possibly be.”
Mahomes is excited at the prospect of having the WR practicing with the team, and we’d expect one of the best quarterbacks in the game to recognize excellent receiving talent when he sees it.

Ross’ freshman year saw him register 1,000 receiving yards and nine touchdowns; unfortunately, he has struggled with injury since. Having gone undrafted last year, the pass-catcher spent the season recovering from foot surgery.
It will be interesting to see if Mahomes’ warning carries any weight.
