After EA Sports revealed some of its Madden NFL 21 rankings for quarterbacks this past week, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took exception to one of the attributes.
Mahomes is known for his strong arm and ability to connect with wide receivers for big plays, but it was Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen who received a 99 rating in throw power while Mahomes was given a 97.
Mahomes was the first player to receive a 99 overall this season, but he wasn’t pleased with his throw power rating, so he challenged Allen to a throwing contest when ESPN interviewed him as part of its SportsCenter Special: Madden NFL 21.
“Obviously, Josh has an extremely strong arm, but I’ve yet to see someone have a stronger arm than me,” Mahomes said. “I know we talked about maybe having a throw-off and we can really prove who has the strongest arm. I have the ultimate confidence in myself and I do believe I have the strongest arm. I have the ultimate belief in myself. I mean, he does have a strong arm, but if I put it out there like 80-85 yards… If he beats that he beats it.”
This isn’t the first time Mahomes has presented the challenge to Allen as he did so last offseason as well.
Mahomes is 24-7, completing 65.9% of his passes for 9,412 yards and 76 touchdowns to 18 interceptions in 2 full seasons as the QB of the Chiefs.
