In three-straight playoff games, Patrick Mahomes proved that he is the ultimate king of double digit comebacks as he erased a 10-point deficit for the Chiefs in the final minutes of Super Bowl LIV, bringing Kansas City its first championship in 50 years.
In the 4th quarter, the Chiefs looked dead in the water and desperately needed a spark as they trailed 20-10 and facing a 3rd-and-15 from their own 35-yard line with about seven minutes to go. That’s when Mahomes found wide receiver Tyreek Hill deep down field for a 44-yard gain.
Following the game, we found out that it was actually Mahomes who called for that play, which the team referred to as “Wasp.”
Earlier this week, NFL films gave everybody an inside look how that moment actually came to be. A mic’d up Mahomes could be seen asking offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy if they can have the time/protection to run the “wasp” play and stating how he’d be able to pull it off.
