Patrick Mahomes is everything to Kansas City, and now he’s trying to bring even more joy to the area.
A day after voters in Arizona appear to have rejected a new arena for the Arizona Coyotes hockey team, the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had an idea where the Coyotes should play.
Patrick Mahomes tweeted a suggestion to the NHL on Wednesday.
“KC Coyotes has a nice ring to it! @NHL what y’all think? @tmobilecenter,” Mahomes wrote on Twitter.
Since the T-Mobile Center opened, there’s been an effort to bring an NBA or NHL team to Kansas City. The most recent attempt was to lure the Toronto Raptors to Kansas City, who were barred from playing home games in Canada during the pandemic’s peak.
This week, voters in the Phoenix suburb of Tempe were strongly against three propositions to build a $2.3 billion entertainment district that would include a new arena for the Coyotes.

Opposers to the propositions had a double-digit lead over those in favor, with only ballots dropped off Tuesday left to count.
“The National Hockey League is terribly disappointed by the results of the public referendum regarding the Coyotes’ arena project in Tempe,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “We are going to review with the Coyotes what the options might be going forward.”
The Coyotes had high hopes to have a new arena in Tempe to settle down in after playing in three different venues since moving to Arizona.
Now, it looks like their next arena will be in another city.
