It’s official: Former NFL punter Pat McAfee has been served with a lawsuit from Brett Favre.
Favre is suing both McAfee and former NFL star and current Fox Sports NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe, alleging “defamation” over comments they made on Favre’s alleged involvement in a $77 million Mississippi welfare scandal.
On Sunday afternoon, McAfee publicly revealed that he was officially hit with a lawsuit from the three-time league MVP:
McAfee has been making humor out of the threatened lawsuits (and subsequent actions) from Favre and the latter’s lawyer during the process. It appears as though the popular sports personality isn’t at all concerned about the legal battles that lie ahead.
Favre is alleging that McAfee’s defamation act came from when the latter called Favre a “thief” who stole from poor people in the state of Mississippi. Back in October, the former Green Bay Packers star stated that he was a victim of being “smeared in the media.”

McAfee was a punter for the Indianapolis Colts from 2009 to 2016. Though he was one of the NFL’s best punters during his playing career (two Pro Bowl nods and a 2014 First-team All-Pro selection), he was mostly a fan favorite for his humorous personality and work on social media.
Since retiring from football, McAfee has become a household name in the sports media world. He has also found success in the WWE, where he works as a commentator and occasional wrestler.
