The 2023 NFL Draft is still more than a month away, but we’ve already witnessed the first major shakeup after the Carolina Panthers acquired the first-overall pick from the Chicago Bears in a blockbuster deal.
The Panthers gave away their 9th and 61st overall picks in this year’s draft, along with their 2024 first-rounder, their 2025 second-rounder and wide receiver DJ Moore in order to move into the top spot in the draft.
After giving up all of that, you’d have to think they have their sights set on one of the top quarterbacks from this year’s draft class, and that appears to be precisely the case.
According to reports, the “sense around the league” is that the Panthers intend to draft former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud.
It has also been reported that the Panthers are still willing to move down a few spots and trade the first-overall pick to a team that’s interested in Alabama star Bryce Young — in which case, Carolina would recoup some of the draft capital they lost in their trade with the Bears while still getting Stroud.

Regardless of whether the Panthers move the first-overall pick or not, it appears as though they’re finally going to find that franchise quarterback they’ve been looking for since moving on from former NFL MVP Cam Newton.
