If you’re hoping for another reunion between Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers, it can still very much happen, but Newtn would have to acceppt certain terms to make it happen.
On Monday, Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer reported that the Panthers are still open to bringing back their all-time leading passer but under two conditions. He would have to sign on for a “smaller salary” from 2021 and would not be considered the starter heading into training camp.
The Panthers currently have Sam Darnold as their starting QB, with P.J. Walker and 2022 third-round draft pick Matt Corral also in the mix.
Earlier this month, general manager Scott Fitterer joined PFT PM and told host Mike Florio that Newton and the team have remained in communication about a possible return.
“I think we’re still having thoughts,” Fitterer said. “We have to see how this works out here throughout the spring. I just happened to be up at the [Kentucky] Derby last weekend and Cam was up there. We’re texting a little bit. The lines of communication are open. I know Coach Rhule has spoken with him. We are going to have a discussion at some point but we’re just not quite there yet, but we’ll see how it goes. The more competition we have at that position the better.”
Newton, a former No. 1 overall pick, has put together an incredible résumé that’s just loaded with achievements. Since entering the NFL in 2011, Newton has been named MVP of the league, earned Pro Bowl honors, won Offensive Player of the Year and led the Carolina Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance.

He also has the record for must rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
The prime of his career is all but over, but he can still deliver a blast from the past every now and then as he displayed last season.
Newton, who turned 33 earlier this month, played in eight games with five starts for the Carolina Panthers last season.
