The Carolina Panthers will be the first team on the board when the NFL Draft kicks off later this month after negotiating a trade with the Chicago Bears that landed them the No. 1 overall pick. However, they might not be sure what to do with it as the front office is said to be split over which quarterback they should select.
The choice is between Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud, with the latter understood to be the top choice back when the pick was acquired. However, Peter King is reporting that there are influential figures within the organization who are keen on drafting Young instead.
“The other thing I hear is several influential voices in the organization favor [Bryce] Young. That doesn’t mean Young will be the pick—not at all. This will be a collaborative choice, and the Panthers still have organizational meetings ahead to set their draft board with finality,” Peter King wrote in his Football Morning in America column on ProFootballTalk.
“But before he took the Carolina quarterback-coach job, Josh McCown reportedly told friends he loved Young. What that means after he’s studied all of the passers, I don’t know.”
The way it looks right now, either quarterback could go on to become the face of a successful franchise, and that’s the expectation for both of them. But analysts have noted concerns over Young’s height and size.
The former Alabama star did not weigh in at his Pro Day but measured 5ft 10in and weighed 204 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this year. Stroud, on the other hand, is 6ft 3in tall and weighs around 218 pounds.

The Panthers have a bit of time to make up their minds as the draft is still three weeks away. It will be interesting to see which one of the QBs will still be available after they make their pick.
