With the 2023 NFL Draft quickly approaching, teams are doing their due diligence on players who they are considering drafting. Choosing incorrectly with your first round pick can set your franchise back for several years, while hitting on your early round picks can quickly turn a pretender into a contender overnight.
Earlier this month, the Carolina Panthers made a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Bears to move up to the #1 spot and the right to choose presumably any quarterback on the board. Many believed that the Panthers were likely to select Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, however, according to ESPN football analyst Todd McShay, Carolina may be leaning in another direction.
It is no surprise that the Panthers are seriously considering selecting Young as he is coming off two very solid seasons at Alabama. He is the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner and has a 23-4 record as a starter while throwing 80 touchdown passes to just 12 interceptions.
Carolina has a huge decision to make at next month’s draft, one that will shape the franchise for the foreseeable future. Although both quarterbacks seem like sure fire locks to succeed at the NFL level, looking back at the history of the draft, anyone that follows football knows there are no guarantees, even with the #1 overall pick.
