The Green Bay Packers were dealt a tough blow on Saturday.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, veteran tight end and special teams contributor Tyler Davis suffered a torn ACL in the team’s preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday and will be out for the season.
Davis made one of the biggest plays of the game, hauling in a five-yard touchdown pass from Sean Clifford late in the first half. The Packers went on to win the game 36-19.
The Georgia Tech product was drafted in the sixth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2020. Davis appeared in eight games for the Jaguars but saw just two targets on the season. He joined the Packers in 2021 and played 81 percent of the defensive snaps on their special teams unit last season, per Pro Football Reference.
The Packers addressed the tight end position early in this year’s draft, using the No. 42 and No. 78 picks on Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft, respectively. The other tight end on Green Bay’s depth chart is undratfed product Austin Allen, who joined the Packers last year after a brief stint with the New York Giants.
