Brian Gutekunst had some things to get off his chest amid the awaited decision of Aaron Rodgers and what he wants to do with his career.
On Wednesday during a press conference, the Green Bay Packers general manager refused to address whether or not he would actually trade Aaron Rodgers if the veteran QB requested it. He called the situation hypothetical and wouldn’t dive into it.
“Packers GM Brian Gutekunst wouldn’t address whether he would trade Aaron Rodgers if the QB wants to play elsewhere. He called it a hypothetical that he’s not going to discuss.
Same with Davante Adams and the franchise tag, altho he would prefer a long-term deal instead of tag.”
Gutekunst isn’t guaranteeing that receiver Davante Adams will remain in Green Bay in 2022. He stated that he wants to reach a long-term contract extension with Adams, and that the team would prefer that over using the franchise tag on Adams.
“Gutey said the Packers can keep Rodgers and Adams while also keeping the team competitive with other pieces despite their cap issues.

“I feel very confident about that.”
If the Packers do not want Adams to leave, they can keep him with the franchise tag. He would be even happier if his QB remains with the team also.
This past season, Adams logged 1,553 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns while setting single-season team records in yards and receptions.
Rodgers completed 68.9% of his passes for 4,115 yards with 37 touchdowns against four interceptions in 16 games in 2021.
Their numbers just weren’t good enough to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in the postseason and ruined what started out as a great regular season.
