Jimmy Garoppolo’s time in San Francisco may soon be coming to an end.
On Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers gave his camp permission to seek a trade, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
A favorite for Garoppolo’s services hasn’t emerged, but it does sound like one team won’t be coming after him.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns are not expected to pursue a trade for Garoppolo.
Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus revealed that the Browns’ brass had thought about a possible trade early in the offseason. Jimmy G would be an upgrade over Jacoby Brissett who is in line to take over if Deshaun Watson gets multiple games from a suspension.

While Jimmy G would be an upgrade, he also carries a $24.2 million base salary for the 2022 season. That is not a salary the team wants to pay if they expect Watson to come back and play in 2022.
It has long been expected that the 49ers would move on from Garoppolo after they selected former North Dakota State product Trey Lance third overall in last year’s draft.
Garoppolo arrived in San Francisco via trade from New England during the 2017 season. Over the course of five seasons, Garoppolo tossed for 11,162 yards and 66 touchdowns with a 67.7 completion percentage.
