Earlier today we though we had official word that Tom Brady was hanging up his cleats and ending one of the most dominant eras in NFL history.
Players from around the league were quick to jump onto social media to pay their respects to the GOAT, but it didn’t take long for Brady’s camp to begin refuting those reports. From Brady’s agent to his own father, we were beginning to receive word that Tommy had not yet made up his mind regarding his future.
Word was even leaked that Brady had called Buccaneers GM Jason Licht to inform him that he had not yet made his decision.
Well, based on Brady’s current contract situation, there now appears to be a perfectly good reason as to why Brady has not yet made an official announcement on his future.
Based on Brady’s contract, he’s set to be paid $15-million from his $20-million signing bonus on February 4th. If Brady retires before then, however, he wouldn’t be owed that money.

Sure, Brady is probably the last dude on earth who needs an extra $15-million in his pocket… Doesn’t mean he’s not going to take it.
Set your calendars for February 5th, everyone. It’ll probably be the day the the Brady era in the National Football League OFFICIALLY comes to an end.
